When God said ‘No’ and I thought my life was over
Let me set the scene: I was in a wilderness-not the scenic kind with Instagram-worthy views , but the emotional kind where nothing seemed to work out. Despite knocking on every door, every prayer bounced back with a divine NO lol. At the time, it felt like my life was crumbling. The more I prayed, bargained, and threw emotional tantrums, the more I looked like a toddler. However, no amount of blackmail, tears or heartfelt speeches seemed to move God. I felt abandoned, frustrated, and stuck.

With the benefit of hindsight, I now understand why God closed those doors and kept me in that wilderness. It wasn’t punishment, but preparation. Those “No’s” I fought so hard against were God’s way of protecting me, pruning me, and teaching me things that would shape me into the person I am today. Without that season of struggle, I would be in a complete mess right now. People applaud me these days for my “wisdom”? This is just a collection of hard-won lessons. It wasn’t fun, but it was necessary.
As I learned in that wilderness, God’s “No” is not a rejection, but a redirection At the time, I was convinced that God’s “No” would mean the end of the world. However, it wasn’t the end. It was a detour to something better. My character was built in the tough seasons when nothing was going my way. I learned patience, resilience, and how to trust God even when I did not understand. There is no easy season that could have prepared me for those lessons.
I prayed for relationships, opportunities, and dreams that seemed good to me. God had something bigger and better for me, and I had to let go in order to receive it.
If you are praying to God to make that unhealthy relationship work or to turn your almost right situation into perfect, I lovingly warn you: Listen to God’s “No.” I know it hurts. I understand how unfair it feels. Trying to manipulate God, bargain with Him, or throw tantrums won’t change His mind. He won’t change His mind, and you don’t want to change it! The reason for His “No” is always to protect you and to glorify Him. If you are in the dating stage and have been begging God to fix your relationship, it may not be the one He has in mind for you. God sees the whole picture, no matter how much potential you see in your bae. A no from God saves you from years of heartbreak, frustration, and missed opportunities.

My journey has now taken me to the other side of the wilderness. Life isn’t perfect, but I’m living proof that God’s plan is always better. Those lessons I learned in the wilderness? They’ve helped me make wise choices, discern His will and most importantly, trust His timing. When God says no, it’s not the end of your story – it’s the beginning of something much greater than you could ever imagine. Therefore, if you’re going through a wilderness season, take heart. Silence does not mean God is absent. Your “No” isn’t the end; it’s a step towards the future that He has lovingly planned for you.
Even though it may not seem like it right now, you are in the midst of a divine plan. Nothing is wasted, not even the painful farewells, the closed doors, or the delays. Even when we can’t see it right away, God doesn’t permit anything that doesn’t make sense. Deep, sacred work is being done inside of you by the discomfort of this season. It’s molding your spirit, reviving your mind, and getting your heart ready for where He’s taking you.
Even though you might feel like you’re stuck in a holding pattern or going around in circles, keep in mind that the wilderness is not where you’re going to end up. It serves as your practice area. Even in the waiting and the silence, you’re being polished like gold. And when the time comes, you’ll reflect and see that God used your wilderness to reveal his glory.
Eventually, you will be grateful for His no.

So relatable!!! Especially in the season that I am. Thank you for this. Another reminder of God being the master story-writer of our lives.
