Love Knows No Colour: A Zimbabwean Story of Faith, Marriage, and Healing

“Love Knows No Colour” by Bronwyn Simbarashe is a powerful memoir and faith-based guide that chronicles an 18-year Zimbabwean multiracial marriage, transforming personal struggle into a universal testament of reconciliation, family healing, and unwavering faith. The book delves beyond the social scrutiny faced by interracial couples to explore the profound journey of building a unified “Kingdom culture” within a divided world.

The book’s genesis lies in Bronwyn’s lifelong habit of journaling. What began as private reflections from a newlywed evolved into a manuscript she would wrestle with for nearly two decades. “For years, perfectionism held me back,” she confesses. “I kept editing, restructuring, feeling it was never good enough.”

More importantly, the emotional tenor of the early drafts needed time to transform. The narrative initially sprang from a place of raw hurt, questioning the rejection she faced. The delay, she now sees, was divine. “The story needed to mature from ‘what they did to me’ to ‘what God did for me,’” she reflects. This shift from a cry of pain to a testament of redemption forms the spiritual backbone of the work.

The catalyst to finally publish came unexpectedly when Bronwyn attended “Beyond Success” training, which pushed her to act. What followed felt like divine affirmation: within a single week, she randomly connected with a skilled editor, a gifted graphic designer, and a thorough proofreader. “It was God saying, ‘Now is the time,’” she states. This confirmation was bolstered by a message at her church’s Synod Conference back in 2025, settling any lingering doubt.

Love Knows No Colour delves far beyond the social scrutiny the couple endured, the stares in public that sometimes forced them to disconnect hands. It probes the deeper, more universal chasm of cultural expectation and family dynamics. The most poignant conflict was with her father, who opposed the union and initially vowed not to attend the wedding.

His last-minute arrival was fraught with anxiety. “I walked down the aisle wondering if he’d stand up to object when the pastor asked for just cause,” Bronwyn recalls. This moment of intense vulnerability is captured powerfully in the book. Yet, the story of reconciliation continues. Years later, she sent him the completed manuscript. His response; an hour-long, emotional phone call and a voice note, brought her journey full circle. “He said he was proud, and that ‘love is not about black and white,’” she shares, a testament to the healing the book aims to inspire many others in the same dilemma.

For Bronwyn, the narrative is not solely about race; it is fundamentally about culture and faith. Raising four children within a deliberate “Kingdom culture,” rather than any single earthly tradition, is central to her mission. This focus required navigating complex family rituals and establishing non-negotiables grounded in her Christian beliefs, a journey marked by significant spiritual warfare. The period leading to the book’s release sometime feels like an “attack,” with bad news arriving from all sides. She credits her survival to her faith and foundational church programs like Walking Free, Entering the Kingdom, The Christian Leadership Development Program among others and the teaching on Breaking the bonds of iniquity.

Ultimately, Love Knows No Colour is a compelling manifesto for reconciliation. “Where there is unity, God commands a blessing,” Bronwyn states softly, offering her family’s story as living proof. It is an invitation to believe that love; patient, kind, and fortified by a faith that transcends all borders, can not only survive but thrive, creating a legacy of light in a world too often dimmed by division.
